The Kerala Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) has sought an unconditional apology from Chief Justice of India (CJI) Surya Kant for making derogatory remarks against him on social media. KPCC president and Electricity Minister Sunny Joseph sent an unconditional apology.

The KPCC officially issued an apology in response to the defamation notice sent by the Supreme Court Bar Association. The controversial post appeared on the official X account of the KPCC on October 12. Dear Suryakant,” if law and order is not your domain resign now.We will find your replacement who can handle it.”  In his reply to the legal notice, Sunny Joseph said the post was put up by one Vijay Thottathil of the social media wing of the KPCC, who was removed from his job and asked to tender a public apology.

In the letter, he reiterated his respect for the Constitution, the independence of the judiciary and the constitutional position of the Chief Justice of India. Sunny Joseph said that the social media post does not represent the official policy of the KPCC, nor the policy and stance of the KPCC or the Indian National Congress. In his reply, he said the demand for the Chief Justice’s resignation and saying that his replacement could be found was totally inappropriate and should not have come up on the party’s official social media. Derogatory language used on social media was never intended by the KPCC, so the post was removed and the person was removed. In this situation, the party is apologizing to the Chief Justice unconditionally. The winner has also been asked to apologise to the community. In the wake of this, steps have been taken to review the way the social media accounts of the KPCC are managed and implement new arrangements. It was decided to make the management of the party’s social media accounts more meticulous and limit permissions. It has been decided that remarks against individuals or political leaders should be made only on the basis of clear documents and evidences.

It has been assured that the winner is solely responsible for this post and action has been taken against him and such incidents will not be repeated. Meanwhile, Vijay Thottathil has come up with a new post against Sunny Joseph’s comment. He said that earlier, instead of mentioning any person, he used to tell all the people who were handling social media together and he was made a personal accused. He said he was not personally responsible for the post.
