Division among ex-Maoists even before coming into a form

Introductory note

Operation Kagar/ Operation Black forest annihilated armed Maoists from the dense forests there by forcing them to come out. With no option left except either to surrender or to be hounded by the armed forces, majority of Maoists had surrendered to the police. Now, the big question is what next. They are trying to find out the answers.

Analytical report / analysis

The option many of the former Maoist leaders chose is joining in mainstream politics. However, one has to wait and see on whether they join the existing political parties, which will embrace them, or establish their own entities.

Former Maoist leader Lanka Papi Reddy had already established the Jana Telangana Party (JTP) during last month seeking a role to play in politics. For the reasons best known to them, other surrendered leaders kept a distance with it.

At the same time, three former members of Maoist Central Committee – Communist Party of India Maoist (CPI – Maoist) – Tippiri Tirupati alias Devji, Malla Raji Reddy alias Sangram and Pulluri Prasad Rao alias Chandranna announced formation of a front. In addition to the proposed front, they will also form another organization that would work on peoples’ issues. This means it will have to arms to work in the public field. One is the front, which will deal at political level fixing equations while the other one is – in all probabilities – works with the face of a Non- Governmental Organization (NGO).

“Any organization we form or the united front, will work legally and openly on peoples’ issues. Therefore, we are calling upon the people belonging to the revolutionary camp in Telangana to join the organization we are going to form. We are ready to work with any party that is ready to work together with united front,” they said, according to a report by Deccan Herald. They are in plan to add minorities, Dalits, Adivasis and Bahujans in their target groups.

All the three top leaders made it clear that they were not associated with the Jana Telangana Party (JTP) formed by Papi Reddy, indicating the basic difference among them on how to proceed about their political future. While, Papi Reddy getting ready to jump in the fray, the others are in a mood test the people’s pulse through the organization and  preparing ground for longer battel in the public life.
